Jerry Hewitt - Artist :

Jerry Hewitt

A brief biography:

Jerry Hewitt was born in Guildford in 1948. On leaving school he studied fine art at Cambridge Art School in the late sixties. This was a particularly vibrant time for both Cambridge and the Art School. Both artistically and musically many exciting things were emerging from Cambridge at this time. This nurtured his deep interest and respect of music and musicians, that has to this day been a major influence in Jerry's work.

After these heady days at Art School, reality came rushing in as it has a nasty habit of doing, and he was forced to move up to London where he embarked on a long and varied career in commercial art. This included being a founding member and director of the successful Commercial Communications design partnership, which involved itself in all aspects of design and graphics including mural painting. Examples can still seen in and around London, notably at Tower Hamlets Town Hall. Indeed it was through commercial art that his skills were refined.

Eventually enough was enough and it was time for a complete change of lifestyle. At the suggestion of his children, who needed pictures for their two successful restaurants, and who urged him to "quit doing something sensible" and return to what he knew best: painting. So in the late 1990's he returned to Suffolk where he now lives and works.

In the last five years he has exhibited locally as well as in London, New York and SanDiego.
